Testimonials
“Carefully attending to the wind and tide, we made a pleasant passage down the Kennebec to Popham, “outside” around to Reid State Park and up to Five Islands for lunch at the lobster wharf. Then on up the Sasanoa to Hockomock Bay…with a little gunk holing along the way, through the upper hell gate and on back to Bath…..Three wonderful hours on the water…Throughout, we never had to raise our voices to chat, never had to grab a stanchion for balance, wipe bow spray from our sunglasses, or risk a spilled drink. And every passenger seat was living-room comfortable.”

Last August our entire family, ranging in age from 2 to 62, had a most enjoyable experience on a four hour boat trip on the Kennebec River with Captain Ed Rice. The route was especially chosen to be of most interest to the children; Ed is not only a very good boatsman, but very knowledgeable about the river and the history of the areas that we passed by. We found the trip to be educational as well as lots of fun, and the perfect touch was ending with all the children, big and little, having the opportunity to jump off the stern of the boat, swim to the front and climb up a ladder – over and over again! It was an unqualified success!

What would we do without Ed and Marianne Rice? His boat has always been the highlight of our summer company’s trips to Maine! You haven’t seen Maine unless you’ve been on his boat. The views are breathtaking and unlike anything you would see on any coast in the U.S. My company always looks forward to seeing eagles, seals and lighthouses and is never disappointed. Ed and Marianne are great people with great senses-of-humor. They put everyone at ease at soon as they get on the boat and everyone leaves feeling they’ve known them all of their lives.

In July of 2006 my husband and I were guests in Maine. We were lucky enough to have a tour on Ed’s boat. We still are telling our friends down here in Sarasota about it. Ed made the trip very interesting with all his knowledge of the river and the sites we passed. We were really impressed with BIW and especially interested to hear how those huge ships were able to get through the turns of the river by the use of the lighthouses. Ed, himself, is a wonderful, fun person to spend a few hours with and quite entertaining. Sometime we hope to get back up that way and maybe explore another area with his expertise. Thanks again, Ed!

I just wanted to personally thank you for our wonderful boat ride to the Five Islands and back. Us cousins must make this an annual event, as we enjoy the trip, and especially the captain and his knowledge of the area. Will try and send a photo of the group, including the captain, for your web site. Had a great time, and am already looking forward to the next one. Have a great summer.

Hello Ed, from Kansas!
We made it home without a hitch. Smooth flights the whole way.
I have to tell you, both Suzy and I had the best day Sunday on your boat. The company was exceptional! I’m so glad we got to meet Barbara and her sisiter. And of course, you! We couldn’t stop “gushing” about our day to Laura when we saw her that evening!
I have fallen in love with the state of Maine (in the summertime!) and will hopefully make a trip back next summer if Laura ends up at MSMT again. She is sure hoping she can. She too loves the New England area and is hooked.
Take care and tell Barbara hello for me. I feel I have some great friends in Maine. If you’re ever this direction, let me know and I can show you some…..um….wheatfields! Kansas has a lot more to offer than we let on. It’s an aquired taste!
See you soon and keep in touch.

…we took a boat ride with Ed of River Run Tours. This was very nice, probably the best thing we did all week. The air was very pleasant, and it was such a scenic ride. We got to see seals, and a Bald Eagle. We followed the eagle for some time to get a great picture…
From Operation Recognition Guests Tormey July …we went out on our “River Run” ride with captain Ed Rice. We had called him on Monday to arrange the trip. He pulled up to the end of the pier right on time at 11:00 and took us down past Boothbay and around Westport Island. It’s a beutuful day and we saw Seals and Ospreys, a Lighthouse and some very nice places. Ed was very nice and friendly. Not only will we take him up on his suggestion to take us up the Kennebec, but we will refer him to family from away who come up looking for the “Maine Experience!” Reaally a Great not to be missed Excursion…
From Operation Recognition Guests Gervais …today we are going on a boat ride. Others wrote in the journal that they really liked it and they had a great time. The boat trip & Capt. Ed was a nice trip, the boat is beautiful…

…we returned to meet captain Ed for a 2 hour boat cruise. We saw Seals, Osprey, Bald Eagles and lots of buoys. Captain Ed was so awesome. He’s funny and witty and knew so much about the land AND the water in the area…
From Operation Recognition Guests Hill May 30-June 5 2007
…and at 11:45 we went on a boat ride with Captain Ed of River Run Tours. This was by far the best thing that we’ve done during our stay. The tour lasted a little over 2 hours, and during the trip we saw dozens of Seals, many Osprey, lobster boats and a Lighthouse. Ed was great and even let the kids drive. It was very relaxing…
